The G7 summit (now possibly becoming G6 plus 1) shows that unity among democratic nations is needed more than ever before. Trump shows Third World dictatorial tendencies which is something we never thought could happen to a USA that has been integral to democracy and human rights since the Second World War ended in 1945. Hopefully Trump is a temporary setback to USA but even when he goes, as soon he will, the damage done to USA and its reputation will not go away so easily. Who can now trust an America that renegades on hard thought treaties - Nafta, Climate Change, Trans-Pacific Partnership, Iran - are just a few recent major changes. As Russia lurks menacingly, having achieved more than it could have dreamed of in its victory attack on USA cybernetic defences, China watches from the sidelines. It is difficult to know how 'America First' will affect the future of global growth, peace and respect for human rights. Trump prefers to be a Putin look alike in USA rather than an Obama, Roosevelt or even a Reagan. What we do know is that this is NOT a time for the UK to go it alone and isolate itself from its close and true friends - those in the EU.
