In the Financial Times today (where you can also find my comment and reactions to it) Simon Fraser quite rightly says UK should be realistic about Brexit then gives three basic options for the UK: 1. Stays in, or close to, the EU single market, perhaps via the European Economic Area. 2. Leave the single market but remain in a full or partial customs union. 3. Exit the EU’s economic structures and seek the best preferential trade and economic partnership we can get as a third country. He quite rightly adds that none of these outcomes matches the economic benefits of EU membership. What will happen to level of living, wages, employment and social services under each of the three scenarios? The best option for all four key concerns is not listed i.e. stay in! The referendum last year ignored all Simon's options. As one goes down Simon's list, each option increases its damage until full exit. Add on the costs of all these negotiations which would be better used to pay the NHS. As supporters of my petition know I have listed some of the why and how here. I shall continue as details emerge of what a mess post-Brexit will look like. Our petition seeks to avoid the folly of Brexit and to try and keep Britain prosperous, safe, human and rich!
