Today at 12noon I am going to Muriel Matters House to deliver a hard copy of this petition asking Hastings Borough Council to communicate with residents BEFORE handing responsibilty over to a housing developer.

Local elections are around the corner and assurances are being given by those wanting your votes that they will be acting on your behalf. Why is it then that the current council has refused to engage in any meaningful consultation in relation to the development of this site for over TWO YEARS?

Unfortunately when I formally presented the petition in December at a full council meeting HBC refused to acknowledge the signatures on Change. Org which, according to their own constitution, would would have exceeded the minimum 1500 signatures required to instigate a full debate of the issue. This is a replica of the one started on HBC website and was only necessary as their website kept crashing and declined access to some local residents. It was extremely disappointing that they chose not to acknowledge it at the time but trust now they will have to carry out a full enquiry.

I have messaged HBC to ask if a senior member of the council can receive the document, now 111 pages containing 2429 signatures and still growing, and am are awaiting confirmation from Kim Forward or Andrew Batsford who this will be.

If you are around and want to come along and show your support it would be great to see you there bearing in mind social distancing.
Local press will be there to report the story #Hastingsinfocus
