Allow fans to market Scrabble
Allow fans to market Scrabble
The Issue
Hi, my name is Kenji Matsumoto. I am a dedicated Scrabble fan, and have played the game for the majority of my life. I have done extremely well in sanctioned Scrabble tournaments, and wish to share my love of Scrabble with others.
Unfortunately, I have not been able to do so. Publishers tell me that they have an inability to help me unless I get a letter from Hasbro okaying the use of Scrabble from Hasbro, and whenever I have tried to obtain permission, I am met with opposition.
I understand that Hasbro wants all its products licensed by a single publisher so they can absolve itself from the logistic process of licensing each of its titles. However, such a process has been going on for years with no end in sight. In the meantime, people like me have been disallowed to publish any material on any of your products.
I do not wish to violate your trademark in any way, nor do I wish to infringe on Hasbro’s property, and I would gladly pay Hasbro a reasonable royalty for using the word Scrabble, either/and within the book or outside of it. I merely ask for your permission to share my love of Scrabble with the world.
Thank you,
Kenji Matsumoto
