SAVE THE NAGS HEAD
The Nags Head pub in Camberwell, whose records date back to 1856, is being closed down in April of this year due to the building’s owners, Landlord Camberwell Road Ltd having been given planning permission to turn it into luxury flats. It is the last proper pub in Camberwell and the surrounding areas after the majority of local pubs have been bulldozed to make way for flats, supermarkets and Gastro pubs with no soul, no character and extortionate west end prices!. London is renowned the world over for it's pubs and they are often the hub of the local community where people gather to socialise, have family gatherings, or where the old folk go just to have a bit of company. The owners of the Nags Head do so much for the elderly in their community, they close the doors for a day every Christmas and have a private lunch for all the elderly in the area, and for some of these people it is the highlight of their year and the only day they get to see other people. They also make a point of calling their elderly regulars if they don't see them for a day or two just to make sure they are okay. It is a travesty that one of South London's oldest pubs is closing just to line the pockets of the greedy landlords who care nothing for the community they are destroying or for the friendship and support they are stealing from the old people of Camberwell. Please sign this petition and see if we, the people, can put a stop to this corporate greed that is taking over our beautiful city and destroying some of our oldest landmarks and community spirit.
