Pushback from VADOC

This past weekend there were two separate incidences of contraband being found at Augusta Correctional Center. VADOC posted to Twitter and Facebook about the occurences which they also tagged ACLU of Virginia in. ACLU of Virginia pushed for Virginia to do away with their recent ban on tampons being worn by female visitors so the tag was essentially a smack in the face. Although contraband was found on a female visitor, theres still no reason to try to punish and traumatize all for the actions of a few. Its also proof that their approach to preventing contraband entering the premises and their approach to helping with addiction isnt working. They're going to continue to try and police womens bodies and make visits harder on families in any way they can. We cant let that happen. Please continue to sign and share our petition so we can continue to push to make things better for families as well as inmates.
