Destructive Housing Development Proposed for 66 Acres of Land Abutting Chebacco Woods

The permit request will be for 50 units that are age limited to 55 and older.  The development will sit on the 20 acres of granite that will be blasted and clearcut, forever destroying this land.

What’s at Risk:

WATERSHED for Manchester, Essex and Hamilton

1.     Manchester, Essex and Hamilton all draw water from this aquifer

2.     The developer plans aggressive blasting of approx. 1.5 MILLION cubic feet, for roads and to flatten and clear cut 27,000 trees to build 50 units. The blasting alone could permanently damage the watershed/aquifer

3.     The blasted  rock will require thousand of trucks to haul it away OR they may process it on site, meaning many months of extreme noise levels

4.     Septic plans cross the wetlands to a leaching field which will be a stone’s throw from Meadowbrook Farm’s irrigation ponds.  This will require converting the trail behind the farm into a road that can deliver 6200 cubic feet of sand.

5.     Stormwater basins will be scattered throughout what was mature forest

6.     All this, in an area that has perpetual water bans and greater than a 55% groundwater drawdown every August

OPEN SPACE

7.     Several vernal ponds, significant wetlands and marshes

8.     Natural habitat w/ diverse wildlife - eagles to salamanders, fox to hummingbirds

9.     Trails and stone walls dating back to the Civil War and connections to Chebacco Woods

           Quiet moments walking your dog

                  Adrenaline pumping mountain bike challenges

                  Equestrian activities

Cross country skiing in fresh powder, and so much more

10.  UNH mycologists run field trips for the mushrooms and fungi that only exist here

When it’s gone, it’s gone forever.

What YOU can do regardless of where YOU live. This is not just a Hamilton issue.
