Recent discussions with Heidelberg have revealed important new information:
Gravel extraction at the current pit could be completed as early as 2031.
The proposed batch plant could continue operating after gravel extraction ends, potentially until 2036.
Heidelberg has indicated that it intends to remain in the concrete business in Cochrane long term and is already considering future locations. This suggests the proposed batch plant may not simply be tied to the remaining life of the gravel pit, raising broader questions about long-term industrial activity in Cochrane and the future of the Bow River corridor.
While we have been told by the Town that the application is not expected to reach the Planning Commission until at least September or October 2026, residents continue to review technical reports, obtain information through ATI requests (formerly known as FOIP), meet with elected officials, and keep the community informed.
To continue this work, we need your support-
