Urgent Call to Stop More Logging

Michael Robert CaditzVancouver, Canada
Oct 24, 2026

Sadly, logging in Stanley Park has resumed.

THIS IS URGENT! YOUR HELP IS NEEDED NOW MORE THAN EVER.

However, a new Vancouver Park Board consisting of seven commissioners will be inaugurated on November 2nd, 2026. This new Park Board has the authority to rescind approval for continued logging and direct the City to cancel remaining contracts for unnecessary tree removals.

For this to happen, the newly inaugurated commissioners will need to move and debate an urgent members motion immediately after they take their oaths of office on November 2nd.

If a resolution does not pass on November 2nd, logging will continue. The next opportunity for the commissioners to stop the logging would be a month later, during which time immense damage will be needlessly inflicted upon Stanley Park.

The draft resolution reads:

The Vancouver Board of Parks and Recreation hereby immediately prohibits tree removals in Stanley Park except for individual trees determined to be high risk by provincially certified arborists approved by the Park Board commissioners. Further, staff is directed to instruct the City of Vancouver to terminate any existing contracts for tree removals in Stanley Park.

We believe that this resolution is reasonable and balanced, in that it allows mitigation of actual danger while preventing unnecessary damage. Opposing this resolution would be tantamount to sanctioning the removal of trees that are not a risk, which is not justifiable.
