We were trying to obtain 15K signatures, however we are sending the 11k with a letter to the government and our demands has changed a little. The Guyana government this week launched the Sexual Offense Court and that is a step in the right direction. The Minister of Social Protection Anna Ally, also announced the Sexual Offense and Domestic Violence Act and pledged persecution and adjudication. I have drafted the letter to the president requesting the following. 1. Create a special unit within the Guyana Police Force to investigate/manage all sexual assault cases. 2. The officers assigned to this unit will be specially trained to communicate with victims and their relatives. 3. Some Officers will be specialized in Trauma Informed Care. 4. Officers will refrain from re-victimizing victims and uphold a code of conduct including strict confidentiality. 5. The Sexual Offense Court should not be opened to the public. 6. Name a section of the court after Leonard Archibald. 7. Provide free Trauma Informed Counseling for victims for one year. 8. Provide interventions for perpetrators. Please let me know if you have any suggestions or additions to the requests. Thanks for your support Sharmin Prince
