Our Petition MISREPRESENTED

Today, in a Schoology post to all Gunn Students, and in an email to all Gunn parents, Dr. Herrmann blatantly misinformed the entire Gunn community as to the intent of our petition. We would like to correct the misinformation before it gets out of hand. Her post is here: https://docs.google.com/document/d/1stxfKNmG2oo8OPM3ruEcbNpND3QDi-CW1vZ9uo3i4W4/edit She specifically says: "Gunn student who want Tutorial to remain optional and/or have Thursday FLEX period at the end of the day start a petition on Change.org" Our petition specifically says: "Due to the legitimate arguments made about Instructional Minute deficiencies and the need for Social-Emotional Learning, taking away Tutorial as we know it, an optional study hall, seems to be the primary course of action. Students accept this demand." While we would love Tutorial (as the majority of Gunn students do), this is NOT in our petition. If you read the excerpt from our petition above, we fully accept the need to remove Tutorial as we know it. We find this error on Dr. Herrmann's part, while understandable, a delegitimization of what we are attempting to say. She has, of no fault of her own, we hope, misinformed the entire Gunn Community as to the nature of this petition. And while misinforming them, the first sentence of her post on Schoology and her email both say " I want to share a timeline that captures our hard work and deliberations and dispels any misconceptions included in the Change.org student petition." Our petition is, to the best of our knowledge, not misconceived. We are aware of the facts of the case. We legitimately feel a dearth of student voice in the proceedings leading up to this point, and we hope that the student forum on Thursday can clear this up. Please attend the student forum on Thursday in the Little Theater from 3:00 to 3:45! Bring friends! There will be ample time to ask questions, too! Can't wait to see you there!
