Make Offline exams non mandatory

The Issue

With the onset of the second wave of this world-wide pandemic, conducting offline examinations is a huge risk many students cannot afford to take. For students who have not been able to keep up with the syllabus due to lack of resources required to access classes remotely, their nearest centres of examination are not going to be easy to access either. Not all students can afford to travel and then live at a place which is not their hometown for a few days only and further, not all students should be put at that risk. Travelling to nearest centres is a risk in itself, not to mention the economic, physical and mental strain it puts on students to take the examinations with knowledge of being at risk. In these uncertain times when many students have to undergo grief over losing their loved ones and the risk of even walking outside, it is imperative for the State to realise that such exams should not be forced upon students.

With regard to physical health, a many credible reports have proven that asymptomatic patients spread the virus more than symptomatic ones. It cannot be thus ascertained whether the students at the centres are at risk or not. This can be exemplified by the time when NEET was conducted in an offline manner, most test centres couldn't stop people from gathering outside the centre as well. This ensured that, more than the students, the family members of those taking the test will also be at risk.

Thus, We request the education board to take our safety, mental and physical health into consideration and not make offline exams mandatory.
