Plastic Free Guelph
Jul 24, 2018
Last night, Guelph made history - once again.
Though an intense near hour and a half presentation and Question Period, Councillor Hofland's proposed motion which was seconded by Councillor Gordon passed.
"That staff through the recommendations of the Solid Waste Management Master Plan 2018/2019 in particular "Recommendation #5", ensure the scope of activity includes investigating a strategy for the elimination of single-use plastic grocery bags in Guelph and report back to Council with this strategy by the end of Q2 2019"
This is HUGE! Though a small win in fixing a massive problem, we've now got the City engaged on conversations around single-use plastics and look forward to working with them over the next several months to help develop this strategy! We could also very well become the first city in Ontario to regulate single-use plastic bags!
I wish to thank everyone for their continued support along this entire endeavour! Let's keep the momentum going! We know single-use plastics don't just end with bags, and it's going to continue to be an uphill battle!
Sincerely,
Shayne Ward, Executive Director
