Petition updateGuarantee the Triple Lock on State PensionsLabour must do more than change the Prime Minister to win back older voters!

Labour's disastrous performance in the elections across the UK has, at its root, the Government's first decision to attack older people by scrapping the winter fuel payment.  This was followed up by other anti-pensioner measures such as betraying the 3 million WASPI women, kicking social care reform into the long-grass, extending the freeze on the lower tax threshold and encouraging Labour affiliated think tanks and party grandees to attack the Triple Lock. Unsurprisingly Labour's support from older voters has collapsed.

The PM's Speech on Monday failed to meet the moment and the challenges facing older people were ignored. But changing the PM without changing policy is no answer. Labour must change its anti-pensioner attitudes if it is to regain the older votes it has lost; and take measures including unfreezing the lower tax threshold, bringing forward social care reform and stopping all the attacks on the state pension system. Silver Voices will be lobbying hard in all these areas.

The National Pensioners Convention (NPC) has been dissolved and all its staff made redundant, so the only UK-wide representative body for older people is now Silver Voices. Make us representative of your voice too by joining us today on the following link!
