The case for the triple lock protection to be restored to state pensions has become even stronger with the shock further rise in inflation to 11.1% this morning. Silver Voices issued the following press statement in response to the news:
Dennis Reed, Director of Silver Voices, said: “In view of the upward surge in inflation it would be barbarous if the Government did not bow to the force of public opinion and restore the triple lock protection to state pensions on Thursday. Indeed, we are already playing catch-up because the inflation rate for those who spend less, such as pensioner households, is currently 16% and may rise further. Not only is the case to update pensions and benefits by at least 10% irrefutable, but there is also a strong argument that the increases should be brought forward for immediate implementation, rather than making poor households wait until next April. This winter is going to be desperate for millions of UK citizens, both young and old”.
