Curly Gosabara wetland located in Porbandar district is a strong candidate for the Biological Heritage Site, as it satisfies maximum of the measures to be a Biological Heritage Site.
According to the Bird Census Report of January 2014 following are the results which may surprise you with its figures. One can easily imagine the importance of this site by simply observing these figures.
Total 1, 92,053 birds of 112 species belonging to 17 different families were counted during the census. It consists of -
31,177 Lesser Flamingos which comes under wildlife schedule IV. 23,670 Northern Pintail which also comes under wildlife schedule IV. 22,000 Demoiselle Cranes and 5,796 Common Cranes which are also under wildlife schedule IV. 10,551 Black Tailed Godwits which are nearly threatened. 27 Mallards were also reported which was a very rare record for whole Saurashtra region also lies in schedule IV. 74 Dalmatian Pelican which are globally threatened and are protected under schedule IV. 08 Peregrine Falcons which comes under wildlife schedule I. 3 Greater Spotted Eagles which are nearly threatened and 3 osprey which also comes under wildlife schedule I and last but not the least 25 White eye Pochards.
As a great threat in the name of fishing, it has started entering into it to ruin its tranquility. Wetland with such bio diversity is now fighting for its own survival. It is seeking help of nature lovers and sensibly responsible citizens like you and me for its survival.
