Another year...Same items on sale! Electronics, clothing, and cosmetics retailers offered discounts for Black Friday, but supermarket chains are not offering special discounts on groceries.
The lack of food discounts during Black Friday is surprising. “If chains do have discounts on Black Friday, they are mostly consumer goods,” confirmed a product specialist. However, these discounts are conditional on items that are not part of the primary consumer basket: like eggs, milk, bread, butter etc.
Other chains also offer discounts on selected groceries in classic weekly flyers but have not decided to include groceries in the special Black Friday promotions.
They know we MUST buy regardless, so their focus is making us buy what we wouldn't buy otherwise, what we do not really need.
It’s worth noting that food items, in the last two years, were among those items in the consumer basket that have become the most expensive. With the persistent economic uncertainty, supermarkets may miss out on a significant opportunity to boost sales by excluding groceries from their Black Friday deals.
But if we continue raising our voices, we have a chance to be heard! We won't close this petition but instead we'll promote and encourage people to share it to make it go viral. We DO NOT care if the discounts come on Black Friday or any other time. We truly need Groceries on Sale.
