Reconstruct Possum Hollow Road in Indian Land, SC!

The Issue

The condition of Possum Hollow Road in northern Indian Land, SC continues to deteriorate at a very rapid rate, and its present condition is unsafe for both motorists and their respective vehicles. A recent analysis conducted by SCDOT (completed March 2018) concluded that traffic counts have increased from their previous data point of roughly 1,100 cars per day to up to 3,500 cars per day currently. These traffic counts do not include the impact from the future expansion of Keer Corporation and Movement Mortgage along Old Bailes Road. Nor does it include the impact of the relocation of CompuCom's headquarters nearby, future traffic impact from Monte Carlo Garage, the increase in households from the recently started construction of nearly 300 apartments at the intersection of Hwy 160 and Possum Hollow Road at Edgewater, or the build out of Bridgemill, Longbrooke Estates, Fox Ridge, or Springview at Bailes Ridge. In addition via the same study, SCDOT concluded that the pavement quality index (PQI) has reduced from 2.51 to 2.39 (nearly a 5% drop). The current condition of Possum Hollow Road is already in a very bad state, unsafe for motorists, and just simply unsightly. Without a complete overhaul, it will just continue to get worse if its not addressed appropriately by way of a reconstruction project.

As some of you know, I have consistently supported this project and have worked to try to help move the road up the prioritization list, as well as explore additional options to get relief faster. As a board member of the county Transportation Committee, I have a vote but not authority to force decisions. I will continue to vote, work and advocate for what is clearly the worst of the key secondary routes in our county. I appreciate those of you who've taken the time to reach out to me, meet with me, share your concerns and attend Transportation Committee meetings. PLEASE keep making your voices heard! Together, we will get this done - and hopefully do a better job of prioritizing funding in the future so we don't see other important routes get so bad without necessary action.

Possum Hollow Road is a state secondary road. As such it is under the jurisdiction of SCDOT. It is not a county owned or maintained road.
