Thailand's government has this week agreed to ban the use of glyphosate and two other farming chemicals (paraquat and chlorpyrifos) due to their dangers to human health.
The ban takes effect from 1 December 2019. There was strong opposition from Thailand's agriculture minister, however, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Public Health Anutin Charnvirakul, said he would resign if the chemicals were not banned.
Our efforts to get glyphosate banned in public spaces in Australia are off to a strong start with more than 8,000 signatures on the new House of Representatives petition, thanks to your support.
I need your help to continue the momentum so that we can get to 50,000 signatures on the new petition by 13 November 2019,when the petition closes - that's just 20 days to make our voices heard by our Federal MPs.
Please help us get to 10,000 signatures today and sign the House of Reps petition if you haven't already:
1. Sign the petition via this link:
https://www.aph.gov.au/petition_sign?id=EN1082
2. Check your email inbox and/or spam folder and click the confirmation link within 8 hours of signing
3. Share the petition link and instructions on social media channels, email it to friends, family, work colleagues, post it in relevant Facebook Groups.
4. Ask them to make sure they sign this petition too (www.change.org/glyphosate - the signatures from this petition will be delivered to Zali Steggall MP, and this will enable them to receive petition updates.
Momentum has slowed over the past few days, so it is imperative that we all pitch in so that we can leave a legacy for future generations that we can be proud of.
I'm reaching out to media outlets and like-minded influencers and thought-leaders who may be willing to share the petition with their audiences - if you know anyone I should reach out to please do let me know (zara@ohmygoodness.net).
I'm still trying to find people whose health has been impacted by Roundup to come to Canberra with me, to meet with Zali Steggall and other MPs, and take part in a media conference - I am in discussions with two legal firms, but if you know anyone who would be willing (this is an amazing opportunity for them to influence change in a really powerful way), please get in touch.
Thank you so much from the bottom of my heart for your support, especially to those who have shared, posted the petition in Facebook Groups and reached out to others to ask them to sign and share - many hands really do make light work.
Zara D'Cotta.
