Deliver a rail service that truly puts passengers first.

We deserve trains that run for passengers, not just the rail industry. And we need your help to secure change.

Railway passengers want to get to their destination on time and in reasonable comfort. Railway staff want to get them where they’re going, be paid and treated decently for doing so.

GWRC, Metlink, Transdev, Kiwirail, and Hyundai Rotem are failing to do this on an inexcusable scale. For months, if not years now passengers on the Wairarapa line have been left with a service that is deteriorating, and staff have been dealing with degrading working conditions. Privatisation cares neither about the passengers nor the staff, but about profits for its shareholders.

We petition that Greater Wellington Regional Council and its contractors to address the ongoing issues passengers and staff have to deal with on a continuing basis.

These include:

  • Overheating
  • Dysfunctional air conditioning
  • Faulty door wiring
  • Blocked smelly toilets
  • Speed restrictions
  • Lack of staff
  • Poor time keeping
  • End of life mechanical parts such as generators
  • Lack of planning in terms of infrastructure growth to meet the demands of increased passengers throughout the region
  • Lack of a clear communications plan
  • Lack of seating (standing already)before the train actually leaves the Wellington station

With the overcrowding, delays, carriages in poor condition, and the latest health and safety risks of overheated carriages the service does not even provide the expected necessities at times.  To improve this, we need a passenger representative on the review panel that is investigating the Wairarapa rail service issues to ensure our issues are included and addressed.

With issues on the service resolved the commuters, employees, and stakeholders will benefit from a safe, reliable, and comfortable journey that is not impacting on commuters and staff health and safety.  It will get commuters to and from their destination on time, and it will restore confidence to the point where it will attract disgruntled passengers back to the service.

Sign our petition to demand better rail services and passenger representation

We commute, and we vote!
