The Great Barrier Reef, located off the coast of Queensland, Australia; is one of the seven wonders of the Natural World. The Great Barrier Reef is home to 1,500 different species of fish, 411 types of hard coral, one-third of the world's soft corals, 134 species of sharks and rays, six of the world's seven species of the threatened marine turtles and many more species that are vital to the coastal ecosystem. But as it is with good things there is always a catch, since 2016 the Great Barrier Reef has been dying. This is because of four major threats, those being, climate change, ocean pollution and runoff, changes in the coastal land use and overfishing. These threats are a result of unwarranted treatment of the coastal ecosystem and the improper disposal of waste, both at the hands of humans. If the Great Barrier Reef were to disappear it would affect people all around the globe these people benefit from the profits, protection and ecosystem of the reef. The Australian economy in whole generates each year roughly $5.76 billion which is contributed by the Great Barrier Reef Park. The Australian shoreline in that it is protected by the reef, without the reef the surrounding villages would fall into the ocean. Along with the inhabitants of the reef in that it  provides a shelter and food for a multitude of organisms, which are all part of a extreme complex food web. Action needs to be put in place in order for the Great Barrier Reef to be round for future generations to enjoy.
