I have just been informed by the daughter of a widow in Northern Ireland, that her mother still does not benefit under the new rules; '.... a late amendment incorporated into the Public Service Pension Act (Northern Ireland) 2014, by the Assembly allowed only survivors of the 1988 Royal Ulster Constabulary (RUC) Pensions Scheme to have their pensions reinstated effective from July 2014. This benefit does not currently extend to preceeding RUC pension schemes in Northern Ireland ....' Northern Ireland Executive March 21st 2014. Although the Northern Ireland Assembly can still boast more progressive thinking than our government, clearly there is still work do be done.
