Mise à jour sur la pétitionGrant Police Widows Pensions for Life - Don't Make Them Choose Between Love and PensionsCertainty

Following the EU Referendum the buzz word of the moment seems to be “uncertainty”.
Trying to work out the impact on this campaign of the political turmoil currently surrounding us has quite frankly given me a headache.
I have decided to look for, and grasp on tightly to anything that is a certainty and to run with it.
This is what we know for certain:
David Cameron has announced his resignation and by October 2nd he will no longer be our Prime Minister.
Until then he remains the legal head of the government and First Lord of the Treasury.
Mr Cameron is not as concerned about his future job prospects and financial future as I am about mine.
If there is a general election in the near future the votes of 22,000 police widows will once again have currency as they did in 2015.
When Mr Cameron met with his constituent and campaign member Amanda Keylock - he told her that he wanted as many widows as possible to benefit from the then proposed changes to the 1987 police pension regulations.
We have a short amount of time to ascertain whether he truly meant what he said.
It will do our campaign no harm to write to him and suggest that he end his tenure as Prime Minister on a positive note by granting all police widows’ pensions for life.
Granting us lifelong pensions and parity with the RUC widows in Northern Ireland is a ‘cost neutral’ exercise – it costs not one penny more to continue to pay a police widow’s pension if the recipient decides to remarry or move in with a partner.
The average age of a police widow in 2012 was 72 – we are a diminishing problem for successive governments.
The Government has weighed the service of a police officer against the service of a member of the armed forces and found them wanting.
“I understand that the campaign will continue to seek similar changes to those applied in the Armed Forces. The Government believes that there is a specific justification for allowing all surviving partners of Armed Forces pension scheme members to retain their survivor’s pension for life. The same combination of risk to life of the member does not apply in the case of police officers and so the Government does not believe that it would be justified to make these changes for all police officers."
The latest advice from the Police Federation of England and Wales includes the following:
When booking off duty officers should conceal their ID, they should not travel in uniform or ‘half blues’ and should think of their security when at home.
They are warned not to be predictable, to vary routes taken and the places where they park.
And at all times to wonder who is watching them – who might be listening.
PC Keith Blakelock and Fusilier Lee Rigby met the same fate here at home on the streets of Great Britain.
What remains uncertain:
Does the Prime Minister have the prerogative or inclination to grant us lifelong pensions?
Could the necessary changes be achieved in the time available?
Are you as supporters of our campaign prepared to write to the Prime Minister one final time to ask that he grant all police widows’ pensions for life?
Will emails sent to the PM reach him?

Our supporters include two of David Cameron’s constituents – can either or both of them get appointments to speak to him? Will they deliver their letters by hand to his constituency office?
Will letters sent ‘snail mail’ to Downing Street be seen by the man himself and answered accordingly?

Prime Minister & First Lord of the Treasury

Two years ago I was told not to bother campaigning for lifelong pensions for all police widows, that I was on a hiding to nothing and I would just be disappointed – no one ever died of disappointment. We have since achieved lifelong pensions for the widows of officers killed on duty - my letter to the PM is in the post.
Please forward copies of your correspondence to CathrynHall@outlook.com
Thanks folks - we have nothing to lose.
