Good evening everyone,
I have been asked by Diane Lewis - one of the ladies from our campaign to send out this obituary notice published by Manchester and District NARPO.
As I haven't sent out an update recently I was able to oblige.
All responses to Diane please at the email address provided:
"It is with great regret that I must inform you of the death of
Gordon LEWIS.
He died on 24th April 2016 aged 88 yrs
Formerly of Manchester City, Manchester & Salford & GMP.
Gordon joined the Police in 1949 following service in the RAF and was posted to the A Division. He served in the CID and was one of the team working on the Moors Murders. He was promoted to Detective Sergeant after his work on the case. Gordon also worked in the Fingerprint Department at Longsight and Chester House.
His son Steve Lewis was also a GMP officer; sadly Steve died 20 months ago. Gordon's sad passing has ended the fifth generation of Police Officers in his family.
Gordon's funeral will take place at 14.30 hours on Wednesday, 4th May 2016, at Gateshead Crematorium, Saltwell Road, Gateshead. NE8 4TH.
Gordon's Daughter-in-law, Diane, would be pleased to hear from any of his former colleagues, and would be grateful if they would let her know if they wish to attend by email to dianelewis436@yahoo.co.uk
I am indebted to Diane, Gordon's Daughter-in-Law, and Sandie Wilde for the sad tidings."
Hopefully Gordon will get a grand send off.
Cathryn
