Ask Magna Aurora to turn property into greenspace
The Issue
Magna International Inc. has announced that it will be closing its doors. This provides a unique opportunity for Aurora to use the large expanse of property to expand our dwindling green space. Magna leases its current Aurora headquarters from Granite REIT, a real estate investment trust and successor to MI Developments Inc., so it's easy to predict that Aurora, which is already crammed to the brink with back to back housing developments, will continue this trend, building on forest and moraine area. It would be nice to see the stakeholders involved do something that would benefit our town (Walking trails, park area, green space, wildlife corridors) rather than lining the pockets of the housing developers as usual. If you are interested in preserving the integrity of Aurora before it turns into a mini downtown Toronto, please sign and help put pressure on officials (Granite REIT, Geoffrey Dawe, Frank Stronach, and the Ministry of Natural Resources) to ensure that at least one area of Aurora won't be turned into houses and will instead be a flourishing natural space for humans and wildlife to share and enjoy.
