~~Making Waves~~ at GRCC! (+ Updated Petition Wording)

This petition has made a splash, everyone! Comments from students, tutorial coordinators, tutors, ex-tutors, and community members have been flooding in, most of them in strong support of our effort! To everyone who’s given this effort your support, the tutors at GRCC thank you from the bottom of our hearts. We WILL NOT STOP until every tutor at GRCC is paid a livable wage. There is much more in the works, so stay tuned!

Additionally, over the past few days we’ve been informed of some criticisms of the contentious language in the petition, and of where exactly anger was being directed. There’s no doubt that much of that criticism is valid, and valuable for our cause to hear! However, we will not apologize for using strong language to express justified fury up the chain of command, nor for directing readers to the proper channels for students to have their grievances heard.

The petition has been reworded to address the concerns we’ve been made aware of, because ultimately this effort is meant to spread awareness of the problem and to garner widespread student and faculty support, not to personally attack anyone, nor to disparage GRCC as an institution. Let us state this here unambiguously: instructional quality at GRCC is top-notch! The educators at GRCC are amazing, from student tutors to emeritus faculty, and everywhere in between! GRCC’s executive leadership, on the other hand, is a completely different story; the injustices faced by GRCC tutors in no way reflect of the ethics of 99% of the people at GRCC. Insanely poor decisions of leadership are invariably opposed by the bulk of GRCC educators, but actual decision-making power at GRCC is unfortunately not democratic.
