This group advocates for the designation of Grand Rapids as a “sanctuary city,” a city that has adopted a policy of protecting undocumented immigrants by not prosecuting them solely for violating federal immigration laws. Other cities like Los Angeles, Chicago, and Detroit have successfully become sanctuary cities.

We call for the City of Grand Rapids to cease using municipal funds or resources to enforce national immigration laws, which destroy and tear families apart each day. We call for city police and other municipal employees to cease inquiring about a person’s immigration status in irrelevant matters. We also call for Grand Rapids city officials to work together with immigrant rights leaders from within the city to create a warm and welcoming municipality for all people.

Llamamos a que la ciudad de Grand Rapids pare de usar fondos municipales o recursos para reforzar leyes nacionales de inmigracions, que destruyen y rompen familias cada dia. Llamamos a que la policia de la ciudad y otros empleados municipales paren de pedir sobre el estatus migratorio de una person en asuntos irrelevantes.
