Grade Parents on Preparation:Hold Parents Accountable to Save Our Classrooms
The Issue
“Teachers can’t do it alone – it’s time to hold parents accountable too.”
Every year, more children are entering PreK–2nd grade classrooms unprepared for the most basic expectations, and it’s breaking our education system from the ground up.
Teachers are overwhelmed. Classrooms are chaotic. And too many kids are being left behind—not because they lack potential, but because they lack support at home.
✅ Children who don’t know letters, numbers, or even how to hold a pencil.
✅ Kids who arrive hungry or wired on sugar, unable to sit still or focus.
✅ Students with poor communication skills who can’t express their needs or follow directions.
✅ Growing behavioral issues caused by a lack of boundaries, routines, and parental involvement.
This isn’t just a teacher problem. This isn’t just a school problem.
This is a parent problem—and it’s time we address it head-on.
The Solution: A Parent Grading System
We are calling on school boards, superintendents, and policymakers to implement a Parent Grading System for families of PreK–2nd grade students.
This system would:
📌 Encourage accountability by evaluating parents on their role in preparing their children for school.
📌 Focus on key areas, including:
Preparing kids with basic literacy, routines, and healthy habits.
Providing consistent attendance, rest, nutrition, and school readiness.
Supporting positive behavior and emotional development at home.
📌 Offer resources for families who are struggling—not punishment, but support.
When parents step up, teachers can teach. Classrooms thrive. And every child has a real chance to succeed.
Why Sign?
👩🏫 Teachers are drowning trying to fill gaps they didn’t create.
👨👩👧👦 Children deserve better than starting life already behind.
📚 Education begins at home, and it’s time parents are graded for their role too.
✍️ Sign this petition if you agree: Parents must be held accountable for preparing their children for school. Together, we can rebuild our classrooms from the ground up.
