In June 2010 the MTA has eliminated B37 bus line that used to connect Bay Ridge to Downtown Brooklyn-Court St via 3rd Avenue, which traveled the entire length of the avenue. Budget cuts have forced its doom and was replaced by two different routes, the B70 and B103. However, neither of those routes travel through 3rd Avenue in Sunset Park, where the two most heavily traveled destinations are the Bush Terminal Industrial Park and Lutheran Hospital, 2nd Avenue and 55th Street. The bus line is much needed in the Gowanus and Parkslope neighborhoods because the subway transit is simply not enough. Many elderly seniors are unable to to travel by subway trains due to the lack of elevators/escalators until you get to Atlantic Ave-Pacific St station. Also, due to the on-going improvement of 3rd Ave corridor, completion of the new Barclay's Center, coming of Whole Foods, and many other exciting developments, we believe that more people will be attracted to the neighborhood and seek transportation alternatives.
