Dear all

With the one year anniversary of the assault on Belly Mujinga fast approaching on 21 March and that too of her tragic death on 5 April, I am writing to update you on the campaign for justice.

On a positive note, the Senior Coroner has listed a mention hearing in early March 2021 to determine if an Inquest is to be heard. Elaine Banton of Counsel (7 Bedford Row) will put the case for the Inquest for the family.

It is not yet known if BTP and GTR will oppose the call for an Inquest.

The Secretary of State for Transport has said that he will consider our call for a public inquiry in the light of the decision by the Senior Coroner.

BTP have meanwhile continued to refuse to let us have the name of the white male who allegedly assaulted Belly on the concourse on 21 March. We need the BTP to confirm his identity so that we can sue for in the civil court to obtain justice for the family. Most police forces disclose that information to external solicitors when it is to be used exclusively for that purpose. We are to formally complain about their, at best, entirely unreasonable, failure to comply with our request next week.

We are organising events to mark these anniversaries, hopefully including an online conference, and vigil, if you would wish to assist with  the same please email me at - lawrencedavies@equaljustice.co.uk

Stay well, and keep fighting for justice for Belly, by encouraging others to sign this petition.

Lawrence
