My friends,
I, and all our family are overwhelmed by how many people have signed this petition since I last wrote. It seems incredible that we are now at almost 2million signatures. Thank you all.
The last three weeks have seen rallies for Black Lives Matter across the world with Belly’s name raised up. It is incredible to see how her death has touched people.
Black Lives Matter UK organised a peaceful protest on Friday xxth June to show the scale of UK racism They unveiled a billboard in Westminster, just around the corner from Parliament. Over 3,000 names of Black and Minority Ethnic people who have died in the UK in police custody or been victims of racist violence or inequality spell out the words “I can’t breathe”. Belly’s was one of 12 names highlighted in yellow on the billboard.
We love Belly, we miss her every day. She should not be dead. Every day other black families are waking up to that same grief. We want them to know that they, too, are not forgotten. That we share their grief as people have shared ours.
Black Lives Matter’s billboard can only stand on one corner in London for ten days, but with the power of the internet we can make sure it’s seen across the UK and the world. Will you help us to share this video about the billboard? I’ve created a link to make it easier for you https://ctt.ac/1d_nL
The billboard is a tragic reminder of the violence and neglect caused by racism. We will say the names of those who died, and we will make demands for change to ensure they did not die in vain.
Thank you, as always, for your support.
