I am sure this is not the first time you have heard about the heinous violations of human rights that corporate technology giant DoorDash is involved in. Most have probably turned a blind eye because acknowledging the reality would force them to confront how their use of the Doordash app for cheap food delivery contributes to the company's criminal activity through the exploitation of its over 400,000 drivers known as Dashers on their platform.
DoorDash Is Committing Criminal Human Labor Trafficking - Stop Slave Labor In America TODAY!
DoorDash purposely and intentionally incorrectly classifies its drivers or Dashers as independent contractors instead of employees to relieve themselves of the responsibility of paying drivers a living wage and taking care of the astronomical costs associated with delivering food to the company's customers. Drivers or Dashers are forced to bear the burden of all costs associated with the delivery of the food which include but are not limited to gas, vehicle payments, insurance, vehicle wear and tear, vehicle maintenance, self-employment tax, technology costs, health and safety costs and much more.
As a result of the criminal misclassification of Drivers or Dashers, DoorDash commits human trafficking and theft by coercion with impunity hiding behind their carefully drafted agreements that include non-disclosure and mandatory arbitration clauses. Effectively they are sending a very clear message, "We can do whatever we want because you agreed to being exploited." However, in America forced labor, human trafficking, slavery, and theft by coercion are criminal acts that cannot hide behind non-disclosure agreements and predatory language in contracts.
Many Recent Studies Show DoorDash Drivers Make Less Than $1 per Hour after expenses delivering for DoorDash.
Many DoorDash delivery drivers have become unsuspecting victims of the company's trap of forced labor by coercion just hoping to earn extra money to make ends meet. DoorDash advertises that drivers can expect to make between $20-30/hr working for them doing deliveries. In reality, this is very far from the truth of the matter. This is because the business model at DoorDash corporate headquarters in San Francisco California is to get drivers not only to do their bidding by delivering effectively for free but to force drivers to pay for costs the company should be legally required to pay for under United States Labor Laws.
This creates a climate in which drivers or Dashers will need to use their own money and limited resources to complete deliveries and line the pockets of DoorDash executives with the hopes of getting their money back in tips that are in many cases non-existent. DoorDash pays drivers or Dashers less than $3 per delivery and has paid out millions in claims of keeping tips that should have rightfully gone to their drivers or Dashers.
DoorDash Dashers believe they have a good gig until the reality shows up in unpaid living expenses, past due bills and car payments, and repairs they can't afford.
When I started delivering for DoorDash over two years ago, I was successfully operating multiple small businesses I founded and built from the ground up brick by brick. I wasn't rich by any means, but I was doing well for myself and living comfortably. I picked up the job with DoorDash based on their deceptive ads claiming we would make $20-30/hr delivering with them. After over two years of working for this company doing deliveries, what I have to show is a mountain of debt and problems created by their criminal labor trafficking. My businesses were forced to close as a result of valuable resources being allocated to DoorDash for the delivery of food to their customers. I lost the home I was purchasing as a result of not being paid by DoorDash for deliveries and falling behind on payments and taxes. My car payments for both vehicles used exclusively to make deliveries for DoorDash are behind to a combined total of over $20,000 - I'm at risk of losing the vehicles too and having no means to provide for myself.
DoorDash makes it very clear that they do not care about the life and livelihood of their drivers or Dashers - only profits matter.
To make matters worse, I just recently almost lost my life while at a restaurant picking up a DoorDash delivery. I arrived at the restaurant to pick up the DoorDash customer order and within less than one minute of arriving and picking up the order, my car was blocked in by gun-wielding tow truck drivers hired by the restaurant, who is a DoorDash partner. They demanded money from me while impersonating police with a fake badge and falsely imprisoning me while they blocked my exit demanding money while wielding a gun. DoorDash did NOTHING to help regarding this incident and also refused to even reimburse the money that was taken by their partners and their associates. My tip on this delivery was $2 and the DoorDash customer also didn't seem to care I was almost killed in the parking lot of the restaurant to deliver their order. This was the last straw for me, something needs to be done to stop this criminal enterprise from continuing to profit from the disenfranchisement of hardworking Americans!
