Recess legislation passed the General Assembly on the last day of session. Make no mistake: this only happened because you wrote and called and spoke up. Provided the Governor does not veto the bill, all elementary kids in RI will now have at least 20 minutes of free play recess everyday. This happened because parents' voices are strong. While the language is not 100% what we wanted, this bill: - Recognizes recess as a right. - Requires 20 consecutive minutes of free play for all elementary school students each day (including those that go up to grade 6). - Requires teachers make a good faith effort to not withhold recess for punitive reasons.
