Petition updateIntroduce ‘Personal Safety Education’ in School Curriculum to Prevent Child Sexual AbuseWhen are we going to address child sexual abuse at its roots?

We are all aware of the brutal rape and murder of an 8-year-old girl in Kathua, Jammu and Kashmir that shook the conscience of the whole nation. You might have also come across this news where an 11-year-old girl with a hearing disorder was gang raped by 22 men in Chennai for a period of 7 months.
My point is simple. If the innocent girl was subjected to rape for 7 months, why were her parents and her teachers not able to figure out what this little soul was going through?
I fail to understand, why do we bring children to this world, if we don't know our responsibilities as parents? And why do we become teachers, if we are not well-versed with child psychology and are not able to figure out what our children go through on a daily basis?
It is important for all of us to understand that we need to talk to our children about personal safety. We need to create a fear-free environment and safe spaces around ourselves, so that our children will at least speak up about any kind of abuse before they are traumatised for a lifetime.
The only way to prevent child sexual abuse, or realistically speaking to minimise its magnitude, is to talk to our children about personal safety. We have to make ourselves aware about the menace of child sexual abuse. Once a child becomes a victim of sexual abuse, it is nearly impossible for him or her to heal completely and the healing takes a lifetime.
Please do your bit in preventing child sexual abuse in our society by raising awareness about it.
