Stop unnecessary deaths, the Coronavirus has spread across this country to over 300,000

The Issue

The pandemic has caused people to die in this country at an alarming rate. Help us to stop the senseless spread of the deadly coronavirus throughout prisons' and jails in New York State. According to the Marshall Project's tracking of COVID-19 throughout the country, to date, there have been over 300,000 cases of coronavirus reported among prisoners. Due to the density of correctional settings and inability to comply with the recommendations of the Center for Disease Control, i.e. mask wearing, six foot social distancing, lack of efficient testing and the inability to exercise constant handwashing has caused many incarcerated people to fall ill and many have died across this country. Because the correctional facilities have failed to test all incarcerated people, the true infection rate has not been determined in New York or throughout the carceral system in this country.

Will you please fight with us?  New York is a state with one of the highest rates of COVID-19 cases.

Prisons and jails are another way to lynch blacks and to keep them reminded of their inferiority and powerlessness. Above all, it displays how the the end of enslavement in 1863 holds no weight in this country.[1]  As a chaplain, I have come to learn that love is the common language. To save human lives is to love humanity. Love which is God's greatest gift covers a multitude of sins (1Peter 4:8).

Lives are at stake! Please fight with us by signing this petition today to ask for those incarcerated with pre-existing conditions, lower level offenses and who pose no threat to be released today! Because of pre-existing conditions, many incarcerated people are more vulnerable to COVID-19. Signing this petition would show that you care about human lives and want to sustain life not allow them to potentially die... What's' more is that because the incarcerated are in a congregational setting they should have been of the first to receive the new COVID-19 vaccine.

By signing this petition today we can fight against the moral injustice that incarcerated people face with the threat of dying while being detained. Our leaders have a moral responsibility to protect human lives as the 14th Amendment declares. Governor Hochul, Mayor Adams, prison' Wardens, and Judges, can expedite this process by providing a lifeline to the incarcerated by giving them an ankle bracelet and a compassionate home release today.

Let's save lives together!
