Replace Don Winstel from his position as Director at Franklin Co Animal Shelter
The Issue
My name is Christy Brownlee. Most of you know me by my main FB page Lost Dogs Found Ohio Crosspost 2 or by my networking and finding rescues for the homeless/unwanted dogs of Ohio. I am a huge dog lover, a proud foster and will do anything in my legal power to reunite dogs with owners or save any dog from danger. There are unfortunately times where euthanasia is realistically an only alternative. This was not one.
We all are aware of the mass euthansia of the dogs at the Franklin Co Animal Shelter and their unfair protocols. Director Don Winstel did not notify the public of the outbreak or close the shelter until over 400 dogs were adopted out causing more exposure to adopters who have other dogs in their homes. His carelessness has caused citizens walking through the shelter, exposure to the virus, transferring onto shoes, resulting in the possible illness of other dogs in their homes. His previous tenure at the shelter from 2009-2011 resulted in high euthanasia rates. His lack of knowledge, carelessness, negligence and recklessness have caused over 80+ dogs to be killed and still counting. Rescues were willing to take on responsibility of dogs. When they went to pick up, they were already killed. There are no records of how many ill dogs from adopters in new homes. He is still allowing strays into the shelter that could possibly result in more deaths. Dogs have been killed without having positive distemper or before tests have come back. This is negligence on his part as director. We urgently need a new director appointed by the tax paying citizens who fund this shelter. One who cares, has compassion and will keep their oath as a public servant to keep the community and companion animals safe! One who believes that euthanasia is not always the answer. Winstel should be on leave until this problem is investigated and resolved. The insubordination at this shelter has to be stopped or more lives will be lost! Dogs lives matter. Your dogs life matters! Please feel free to post facts or your opinions to show why this needs to be done quickly!
