Washington state claims to be a progressive state, but yet they still honor a mass murderer every year by celebrating Columbus Day. Christopher Columbus and his men raped, murdered and brutalized Native people. There are even accounts of Columbus and his men hunting Natives for sport and feeding Native babies to their dogs. If there is the slightest grain of truth to any of this (which there is) how can anyone in good conscience continue to celebrate him and his legacy.

Abolish Columbus Day in Washington State, do the right thing and support Indigenous People's Day.

I started this petition because...
I am a proud at-large citizen of the Cherokee Nation residing in Washington State, but it sickens me to see the current state administration's lack of decency to abolish such an archaic holiday.
