Racing horses in Dangerous Heat at Saratoga Race Course
Horseracing Wrongs along with New York State Humane Association issued a statement this morning calling on the New York Racing Association to cancel racing at Saratoga Race Course today, Thursday, August 4, 2022.
"With an intense heat advisory from 1:05 pm to 6:13 pm today, NYRA plans to conduct 10 races at Saratoga Race Course. Horseracing Wrongs along with New York State Humane Association, animal advocates and general members of the public are outraged at this decision. Racing horses in today's extreme heat, with the threat of triple-digit heat indices, is another cruelty among the many the horses at Saratoga endure daily: extreme confinement, whipping, drugging, metal mouth bits, lip chains, tongue ties, painful injuries and, of course, death (Saratoga averages 15 kills per summer).
Again, NYRA and the 'horsemen' prove they value purse money (for today's races: $904,000) over the welfare of horses." Patrick Battuello, founder and president, Horseracing Wrongs.
