Petition updateGovernor Green: Keep Hawai‘i Safe – Protect Gender-Affirming Healthcare Now!🎉 HUGE UPDATE: HB1875 Passed the Legislature - One Final Push Needed

Aloha friends,

I have wonderful news to share:

HB1875 - Hawai‘i’s Shield Law Bill protecting access to lawful reproductive and gender-affirming healthcare - has passed the Hawai‘i Legislature and is now headed to Governor Green’s desk.

This is a major victory.

After years of work, testimony, phone calls, emails, meetings, advocacy, and community persistence, this bill has made it through the full legislative process. The final House vote approving the Senate amendments passed 42–8, meaning HB1875 avoided conference committee and is now in the Governor’s hands.

We are so close.

This bill matters because it provides urgently needed protections for patients, families, and healthcare providers in Hawai‘i who are following our state’s laws. It helps protect access to lawful reproductive and gender-affirming healthcare, shields providers from out-of-state overreach, and affirms Hawai‘i’s commitment to privacy, dignity, bodily autonomy, and evidence-based medical care.

For trans and māhū youth, adults, families, and providers, this bill can help make Hawai‘i a safer place.

And that matters more than words can fully express.

To everyone who submitted testimony, made calls, sent emails, shared updates, talked with legislators, or simply kept believing that this was possible - mahalo nui loa.

Your voice mattered.

Your persistence mattered.

Your care and courage helped bring this bill to the Governor’s desk.

“Aloha Governor Green,

I respectfully ask you to sign HB1875 into law.

This bill provides urgently needed protections for patients, families, and healthcare providers in Hawai‘i who are following our state’s laws. It helps protect access to lawful reproductive and gender-affirming healthcare, shields providers from out-of-state overreach, and affirms Hawai‘i’s commitment to privacy, dignity, bodily autonomy, and evidence-based medical care.

HB1875 passed the Legislature after years of work and strong public support. It will help ensure that trans and māhū youth, adults, families, and providers can feel safer here in Hawai‘i.

Mahalo for your leadership and for considering this important request.”

If we hear that the Governor intends to sign the bill, I will keep everyone updated.

But right now, it is important that he hears from as many people and organizations as possible while the bill is before him.

We are almost there.

Together, we brought this bill farther than ever before.

Together we helped pass legislation that avoids the need of an Executive Order entirely.

Together, we helped advance protections for patients, families, providers, trans and māhū people, and some of the most vulnerable members of our community.

Now let’s finish this final step.

With deepest gratitude,

Abby Simmons (she/her)
