Petition updateEnd Horseracing In CaliforniaBosque Redondo Becomes 10th Kill at Churchill Downs
Horseracing Wrongs
May 24, 2023

According to the chart, Bosque Redondo’s turn under the whip at Churchill May 13 was uneventful: “bumped with an inner rival at start, saved ground off the pace, but to no avail”; officially 10th of 12. In fact, we have learned from the Racing Commission, Bosque “required the horse ambulance” afterward, and after diagnostics, “was humanely euthanized due to his injuries and poor prognosis.” The 4-year-old becomes the 10th Kill at Churchill Downs in a little over three weeks. (All was not lost for his exploiters – Jason Ash, Alexis Claire, et al. – for by finishing the race, Bosque “earned” over $1300 for them.)

We remind: This current cluster at Churchill may be unusual, but death there is definitively not: Churchill has averaged 25 kills annually over the past five years. Business as usual.
