Governor Deal: Oppose oil and gas development and exploration off our Georgia coast.

Governor Deal: Oppose oil and gas development and exploration off our Georgia coast.
The Issue
On January 4, 2018, the federal government introduced a proposed offshore oil and gas leasing plan that would allow petroleum companies to build oil and gas platforms, pipelines, and onshore infrastructure along Georgia’s coast and the other East Coast states. Since 2014, Georgians have spoken up across the state to voice opposition to this federal plan - including 265,000 individuals represented by seven cities councils that passed resolutions of opposition. Days after the 2018 the federal oil and gas plan was released, the Secretary of Interior arbitrarily exempted the coasts of Florida.
We, the undersigned, greatly value the natural, historic, and cultural assets that make Georgia’s coast a great place to live, work, and visit. We urge you, Governor Deal, to stand with us and oppose oil and gas development and exploration off our Georgia coast.
