Green Belt and a West Midlands Mayor

In light of the Green Belt issue and the fact despite the objections to the development, it was waved through, many have asked me who they should vote for in the West Midlands Mayor elections. The answer is simple Andy Street. If it were a general election I would not comment as we are a non-partisan campaign group. For the Mayor elections, I will make an exception as I believe the role is less about politics but more about leadership. Andy Street is that leader. He is the ex-Managing Director of John Lewis and not a career politician, he has a track record of leadership. He is from Birmingham and knows the Midlands well. He understands the infrastructure constraints we face and has openly said he will prioritise brownfield land over the green belt in the West Midlands. With his business background, he knows how to deliver. I have met Andy many times and have discussed the issues we face, I have found him personable and engaging and if anyone is going to listen to us, he will. We need someone in place who won’t fail us and I will stick my neck out and say Andy Street is that person.
