No more pig barns in Manitoba!

In 2017, despite widespread disagreement, the Manitoba Government passed Bill 24 The Red Tape Reduction Act (see https://web2.gov.mb.ca/bills/41-2/b024e.php), which eliminated the ban on new hog barn production in Manitoba. Currently, 8 million innocent pigs are murdered each year in Manitoba. According to the Canadians for Ethical Treatment of Farm Animals, the elimination of this ban could mean another 1.3 million innocent pigs will be murdered each year.
The Manitoba Government received a proposal for a new barn to be built that would house 6000 pigs in Swan Lake, Manitoba. Pigs suffer immensely in factory farm conditions, and there have been numerous pig barn fires due to the lack of regulations and fire protection. See article, "Thousands of pigs die as Southern Manitoba hog barn goes up in flames," http://www.cbc.ca/news/canada/manitoba/manitoba-hog-barn-fire-1.4398244
In July and August of 2017, activists with the Manitoba Animal Save bore witness to thousands of pigs on their way to be murdered at Maple Leaf Foods in Brandon, MB. We have witnessed pigs in extreme distress, pigs that are overheated, and dehydrated. Please see footage we have captured here:
Manitoba Animal Save has repeatedly reported these violations to the Canadian Food Inspection Agency (CFIA) and they have "found nothing wrong" and have taken no action.
We are asking the public to speak out against this proposal and demand that NO MORE pig barns are built in Manitoba. Please sign and share this petition and add your voice to the thousands of others who know that this is wrong. Too many pigs are already suffering and we cannot allow any new barns to be built.
We demand the government of Canada:
1) Do the right thing and repeal Bill 24 reinstate the ban that would not allow any further pig barns to be built in Manitoba.
2) The regulatory agency, the Canadian Food Inspection Agency (CFIA) has taken no action to date despite the videos we have captured about pigs in distress in Manitoba. Please call the CFIA on 1-800-442-2342 and ask them to take action or contact them using their feedback form: http://www.inspection.gc.ca/about-the-cfia/contact-us/eng/1299860523723/1299860643049
What you can do right now:
1) Please write letter to TRC@gov.mb.ca before March 23, 2018 and reference TRC 12-039 and demand that the government deny the proposal by V.G. Hog. Ltd. to build a new pig barn in Swan Lake, Manitoba.
2) If you are not vegan, please go vegan today. If you care about animals and you are not yet an activist, please come out and join Manitoba Animal Save at one of our events.
