Over the last 30 years, approximately 1.5 lakh Sri Lankan Tamils have been living in refugee camps in Tamil Nadu. While countries like the USA and others have granted citizenship to refugees from Sri Lanka, India has not yet responded. Secondly, India has granted citizensip to refugees from Bangladesh and other neighbouring countries. Inspite of repeated requests from many groups and particularly, The Art of Living Foundation that collected many lakh signatories earlier, there has been no response from the Government on this issue.
