Ezra's Law!

The Issue

Just recently me and my family experienced something terrible. Something we never want to go through again!

Ezra was our family cat. Just 2 years old. The most precious little ginger fur baby. He wasn't like any ordinary cat, I mean what cat collects the post for you, sits for a treat or follows you to the shop then follows you back home and comes home every night when you call him in for bed!

One night Ezra didn't come home. We didn't worry too much because usally if he didn't come home that night, the next morning he would be asleep under the garden table waiting for the door to open for his breakfast like nothing was wrong. However, this time was different. He didn't come home for 5 days! The constant worry, the late nights looking for him, posters put around the streets and through peoples letterboxes, not knowing why he hasn't returned.

5 days later our neighbour came round to tell us that she thinks our cats in her garden (bare in mind the gardens around the street were checked). My dad went round to get him and he wasn't in a good way. My mum placed him in the front room with food and water. She went to the kitchen and because he wanted to be with her he struggled sooo much to prop himself up against the wall to try get to her!

We got him straight to the vets for them to tell us that it looks like he has been run over and he could possibly have a dislocated hip but they need to keep him in over night to xray him. Only for the xrays to show they were wrong and it looks like he's been hit that hard that all the bones in his back end were shattered. All his claws were ruined and messed up where he had used them to drag himself home to get help! We were told there was nothing they could do to help him. His injuries were that bad Ezra had to be put to sleep!

My family are absolutely heart broken. A member of the family taken from us. I understand not everyone is a cat person but please take your time to sign this petition to help families like mine have the closure they deserve. If you had to report a cat when its been hit more families will know what's happened to them and won't be given any false hope. We were lucky enough that Ezra was cleaver enough to make his way home. However, if you had to report hitting a cat like you do a dog or many other animals, maybe his injuries wouldn't have been so bad and something might have been done. He could have made his injuries worse by trying to get home to us for help :(

A cat is still a member of the family. A cat is still taken into a persons home and taken care of... just like a dog. In my eyes the only difference between a cat and a dog is that a cat will walk itself. You still feed and water a cat just like you do a dog. You still love and care for a cat the same way you do a dog.

Please just take a moment to sign. Lets get it legalised so that if you hit a cat you have to report it or at least take it to the local vets so families can be informed!
