On February 5, 2026, what we had all feared but hoped against came to past.  Like many Galamsey related terror activities before it, the case of the tragic killing of Master Pious Nkansah by private security of JAS Mining company limited "The Republic v. JAS Mining Company, Eight Chinese Nationals, One Ghanaian Private Security Operative, and Six Adelekεzo Youth" at Adelekεzo, a rural community in the Nzema East Municipality of Ghana was quietly discharged at a Takoradi Circuit Court. The reason? "The Police docket lacked sufficient and credible evidence to sustain the charges."

Once the cameras left and the public's intense interest which had followed the case  dwindled, there was no need to continue the facade as neither the state nor its agents cared about either Pious or his community to begin with. There was no credible evidence to prosecute those who destroyed a community's only source of water, blocked access to their farms, unleashed terror on the ordinary population and killed a13 year old in cold blood.

In the fight against galamsey,  ordinary Ghanaians like young Pious never stood a chance when deep pockets were involved. Master Pious and Adelekεzo cannot be another Statistic. JAS Mining was not mining legally at Adelekεzo. The President of Ghana cannot in good conscience be fighting for reparations while his own people cannot get justice.

We call on the state to right this wrong. The police who dropped the ball must be punished and the AG MUST reset. Master Nkansah's killers must not go free. Please call the Attorney General of Ghana on +233 24 424 3102 and speak up for Pious, for Adelekεzo, for Ghana.
