A tail of two river Ankobras. Unearthing the truth

Like many of you in Ghana, we at the Ghana Environmental Advocacy Group were very encouraged to see the pictures of a fairly green river Ankobra, proudly showcased by the deputy Minister of Lands and Natural Resources, Mr Mireku Duker, flanked by the the DCE of Ellembelle, Mr Kwasi  Bonzoh, and the MCE of Nzema East, Madam Dorcas Elizabeth Amoah. 

The trio's message was that they and the government of President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo's fight against Galamsey and irresponsible mining was seeing positive results.

It was in this regard that we sought to find out for ourselves, so that if true, we could help these three expand whatever they were doing right to the rest of the country. Unfortunately, what Multimedia Group's consummate journalist, Erastus Asare Donkor uncovered, was rather a gravely polluted Ankobra river, polluting the sea. Watch his expose here

What the trio, who are natives of the area and should have a good knowledge of the Ankobra sought to achieve with their propaganda, only they know. We are however, utterly disappointed. We call on all who care about the grave pollution of Ghana's land and rivers, which  eventually affects everyone in Ghana and beyond, to support our call to discipline the trio, and to boycott gold from Ghana until the country can get its act together.
