Tomorrow, April 9 will be one month since we submitted the Stop Galamsey petition to President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo and several decision makers in Ghana to stop the ongoing devastation that has destroyed millions of gallons of fresh water from many critical rivers in Ghana.
Since then, our friend and MP of Wa Central, Rashid Pelpuo read a statement in support of our petition which was discussed in Parliament. Our team, the Galamsey Action Group has submitted a special petition to Nzema Manle Traditional Council, all seven Paramount Chiefs in Nzema and Chiefs of Galamsey hotspot areas in Nzema, and held various media advocacy and sensitization events in the Western region.
Till date we have not received even an acknowledgement from the Presidency and many of the key players petitioned. Sadly, as I write, Galamsey is at the doorstep of the only fresh river remaining in Nzema, the Amanzule river. Communities like Esiama, Azulenloanu, Ampain that are along this river are being hounded into accepting Galamsey. Our Nzema Chiefs are quiet. Elembenle DCE who has every power to act continues to feign helplessness. BUT we will not relent. We will continue to use everything at our disposal at this until we make a dent in this self destruction that is happening in Ghana.
