Currently there are very few states that mandate fertility coverage on health insurance. Infertility is not a choice. It is a true medical condition and should be treated as one. For most trying to conceive couples IVF is the only treatment option available to them. This is a non-covered procedure on most policies. Average cost is 10,000, but can be as much as $25,000. A lot of insurance companies will cover infertility testing, however they do not cover the procedures to correct the problems?

Everyone has the inherent right to birth a child. While procedures and treatments for an infertile couple is mostly out of reach, for the insurance companies the costs are minimal compared to other medical procedures and treatments. Insurance companies have the means to help families see their dreams come to fruition. Furthermore, it is unethical for insurance companies to not provide the funding for the treatment the patient needs.
