Dear Sir:
The COVID-19 pandemic has immensely affected many operations in the business world. The economy has dramatically suffered from reduced productivity and a significant number of job losses all over the country. While we appreciate the efforts by the government to shield the citizens from the economic effects of the pandemic, we believe that the landlords’ fate has been completely sidelined.
The landlords are greatly suffering on their own. It has become almost impossible to cover overhead costs since the tenants are not paying any rent. Landlords are expected to implement strategies that protect the tenants from the economic shocks, while no one is protecting the landlords from these same economic shocks. The government should help us help clients instead of leaving the whole load to ourselves. We understand the harsh economic times, but we also know that a considerable number of tenants can pay their rent. The government is giving severance and stimulus checks, and tenants can use some of this money to pay part of their rent.
I humbly urge you the politicians to consider giving landlords property tax relief. By doing this, you will be helping us help the tenants. Without the right tax relief programs, landlords will be unable to cover the overhead costs, and that will lead to more chaos. Most of the landlords are just trying to stay afloat because they are not rich. It is unfair for them to deal with the effects of the pandemic on their own. The government needs to support them too.
It is my sincere hope that the landlords’ request for tax relief programs will be considered. Tax relief will allow landlords to be more lenient to the tenants, and this will ensure the wellbeing of everybody. Feel free to contact me should you have any questions or concerns. Thank you for your time.
Sincerely,
